The orange blossom honey from the S. Bartolomeu de Messines area of the municipality of Silves has a mild flavor due to the presence of large orange groves that bloom between April / May, with an optimal period of 20 to 25 days, where bees gather their nectar.
It is a honey produced by the bee Apis mellifera (Iberian) and is considered a nectar honey, with a translucent golden yellow color and particularly rich in mineral salts.
Honey is collected from late May to mid-July, resting until September/October, then centrifuged and packed in glass jars.
Therapeutically, it helps to normalize intestinal and nervous system problems. Rich in antioxidants, honey helps to lower blood pressure, in addition to containing antimicrobial properties, fighting infections caused by fungi, viruses and bacteria and relieving sore throat and cough. It can be used as a natural sweetener. However, even with all these benefits, honey should be consumed in moderation. It is recommended to take 2 teaspoons of honey a day.
It can be added to teas, juices, lemonades, cookies, cakes or other culinary recipes.
