J.R.’s Honey Liqueur is also a liqueur known by the name “Melosa”, produced in Serra do Caldeirão with medronho spirit, water, honey, lemon and cinnamon, and according to traditional methods.

The medronho (arbutus berries) is selected and harvested by hand between the months of October and November, to prevent frost and rain from damaging the delicate fruit. It is then packaged in stainless steel fermenters where they remain for around 40 to 50 days. After the fermentation process, a kind of mass is obtained (fruit after fermentation) which is then distilled in a copper still heated with a wood fire. The distillation takes around 4 hours to complete, after which we obtain the famous medronho spirit, finally packaged in stainless steel tanks, analyzed and bottled and which is then used as a base to make this liqueur.

The properties of honey combined with those of medronho brandy make it highly appreciated by both residents and visitors.

The good quality of the ingredients contribute to a good result and influence its flavor and tone.
